A landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) for the development of a cutting-edge Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal.

Strategic Importance of the Multi-Modal Logistics Park

The planned 150-acre logistics hub will serve as a game-changer in India's infrastructure landscape, offering seamless connectivity across multiple transport modes. The MMLP will significantly boost trade efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and create substantial employment opportunities.

Key Features of the MMLP in Varanasi

  • Prime Location & Connectivity:

    • Strategically positioned 1.5 km from the NH7-NH2 junction with a 650m access road to NH7.
    • Direct linkage to the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) via a 5.1 km railway connection from Jeonathpur Station.
    • Enhanced inland water transport accessibility with its proximity to National Waterway-1 (NW-1).
    • Convenient air transport connectivity, being 30 km from Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.
  • Economic and Logistical Advantages:

    • Facilitates integrated logistics solutions, reducing freight costs and delivery timelines.
    • Attracts major investments in the logistics sector, fostering industrial growth and regional economic development.
    • Strengthens India’s supply chain network, aligning with the government's Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
