Goa's Solar-Electric Ferry: A Stranded Dream

Goa's first solar-electric hybrid ferry, launched with fanfare in 2022, is non-operational due to construction discrepancies. Goa Minister Subhash Phal Desai revealed on Monday that the state's inaugural solar-electric hybrid ferry, introduced in 2022, was not constructed as specified. Consequently, the government has launched an investigation.

Despite an enthusiastic launch in 2022, the ferry has ceased operations. Minister Desai informed the legislative assembly of the plan to invite private operators under a PPP model to manage the ferry.

Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao accused the government of awarding the tender for financial gains, ignoring advisories highlighting the vessel's impracticality. The ferry ceased operations after three months due to technical issues, raising further questions about its procurement.
