The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) and the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) have introduced a fully digital monthly bus pass through the Chennai One app. The initiative seeks to make city bus travel more convenient and eliminate paper passes.
The digital pass facility was launched at the MTC headquarters by Tamil Nadu's Transport and Electricity Minister, S S Sivasankar, making it possible for passengers to purchase and use their monthly passes entirely through the mobile app, eliminating the need to visit depots.
As an introductory offer, commuters using the BHIM app can avail a Rs 50 cashback on their pass purchase. This move is part of a larger strategy to integrate public transport services on a single platform, thereby increasing public transport appeal and convenience.
