Jammu airport is poised to enhance its operations with a new CAT-II navigation system, enabling low-visibility flight capabilities. This upgrade comes in response to winter challenges faced due to dense fog, as affirmed by airport director Devender Yadav. A preparatory meeting with stakeholders confirmed readiness for such operations.
The airport is also on the brink of commencing night operations, indicated Yadav, albeit pending defense and security agency approval. Meanwhile, a significant expansion is underway, which includes a fivefold increase in terminal capacity and advanced infrastructure, with six aerobridges and the completion of structural work.
The modernization project, delayed by factors like Operation Sindoor, is now progressing with urgency. Expected to complete by late 2026, the upgraded airport will feature amenities comparable to Delhi's T3, offering substantial improvements in passenger experience and aircraft accommodation, marking a transformation for Jammu's civil aviation sector.
