In a notable advancement, the Indian Railways is swiftly integrating the Kavach system, an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection solution. As of now, more than 2,000 kilometers of the railway network is safeguarded with this sophisticated system.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the extensive groundwork behind the project's rollout, which includes over 7,000 kilometers of optical fibre cable and the installation of 860 telecom towers. Moreover, 767 stations are now covered with data centers while 4,154 locomotives are equipped with the necessary trackside equipment.
The minister further emphasized the significant reduction in rail accidents, which has decreased by 90% since 2014. This achievement is attributed to the advanced safety measures and the substantial training provided to 40,000 technicians and operators.
