Highway authorities in Uttar Pradesh have stepped up safety measures on both expressways and national highways to mitigate road accidents as dense fog envelops the state. This action follows a tragic series of fog-related accidents that claimed at least 25 lives, officials revealed on Wednesday.

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is implementing enhanced precautions on major highways such as the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Purvanchal Expressway, as a response to the accidents that occurred, particularly the severe pile-up on the Yamuna Expressway.

Safety measures include a potential reduction in speed limits and advisories for motorists. Reflective tapes and pamphlets with safety guidelines are being distributed, alongside real-time fog warnings through public address systems at toll plazas, all aimed at maintaining road safety during the hazardous fog season.
