A devastating accident unfolded in northeastern Thailand when a construction crane fell onto a passenger train on Wednesday, claiming the lives of at least 12 individuals, according to local officials.

The crane was part of an ongoing elevated railway project when it toppled onto the train, which was en route from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani province. The impact caused the train to derail and ignite, as reported by the Public Relations Department in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Transport Minister Piphat Ratchakitprakan confirmed the fatalities and stated the train carried 195 passengers. He announced a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this tragic incident, with rescuers continuing their search for any remaining trapped passengers.
