Nigeria’s leading indigenous energy company, Oando Energy, has announced its participation as an Emerald Sponsor at African Energy Week (AEW) 2026, underscoring its growing influence in Africa’s energy sector following a year of strong financial performance and strategic expansion.

The move comes as the company reported a 10% year-on-year increase in profit after tax to ₦241.3 billion for 2025, signalling robust operational resilience despite a challenging global energy and economic environment.

Strong Financial Momentum Signals Strategic Strength

Oando’s improved financial results were driven by:

  • Enhanced upstream performance

  • Increased crude oil and gas liftings

  • Higher gas sales volumes

The company’s upstream production averaged 32,482 barrels per day in 2025, reflecting gains from the full-year consolidation of NAOC Joint Venture assets—a key milestone in strengthening its production base.

Industry analysts view the results as a sign of disciplined capital allocation and operational efficiency, positioning Oando among Africa’s most resilient indigenous energy firms.

Expanding Footprint Beyond Nigeria

In a major step toward regional diversification, Oando signed a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) in March 2026 for Block KON-13 in Angola’s onshore Kwanza Basin, securing a 45% operated interest.

The block is estimated to hold 770 million to 1.1 billion barrels of prospective resources, placing Oando among a select group of African companies with multi-country upstream operations.

This expansion complements its existing portfolio:

  • Interests in 14+ oil and gas assets across Nigeria and São Tomé and Príncipe

  • Management of over 22,400 km² of gross acreage

  • Infrastructure including:

    • 1,255 km of pipelines

    • 14 flow stations

    • Gas processing capacity exceeding 3.6 billion standard cubic feet per day

A Multidimensional Energy Player

While maintaining a strong hydrocarbon base, Oando is increasingly positioning itself as a diversified energy company, integrating renewable energy into its long-term strategy.

Key initiatives include:

  • Plans for a 1.2 GW solar PV module assembly plant in Nigeria

  • Integration of a recycling line to support circular economy goals

  • Collaboration with Nigeria’s Rural Electrification Agency to deploy solar solutions in underserved communities

These efforts reflect a broader industry shift toward energy transition strategies, balancing fossil fuel development with clean energy investments.

AEW 2026: A Platform for Deal-Making and Growth

Oando’s participation at African Energy Week 2026, scheduled for 12–16 October in Cape Town, comes at a critical time for Africa’s energy sector.

The event is expected to bring together:

  • Policymakers

  • Investors

  • Energy companies

  • Industry stakeholders

with a focus on:

  • Accelerating project execution

  • Unlocking investment

  • Driving regional energy integration

“Oando stands ready to partner with governments, investors and industry leaders to accelerate projects and deliver energy solutions that power African prosperity,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.

Driving Indigenous Leadership in Africa’s Energy Future

Oando’s Emerald Sponsorship highlights the growing role of indigenous African companies in shaping the continent’s energy landscape.

By combining:

  • Cross-border expansion

  • Strong operational performance

  • Investments in renewable energy

the company is positioning itself as a key player in both traditional and future energy markets.

Looking Ahead

As Africa seeks to balance energy security, economic growth, and climate commitments, companies like Oando are expected to play a central role in:

  • Scaling infrastructure development

  • Mobilising investment

  • Advancing regional integration

Its presence at AEW 2026 is likely to enhance its visibility among global investors while contributing to critical discussions on the continent’s energy transition and development trajectory.
