Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has emphasized the urgent need to adopt advanced maintenance strategies for the Jammu and Kashmir rail network, due to the distinct challenges presented by the youthful Himalayan ranges. Speaking in Jammu after inaugurating a 20-coach Vande Bharat train to Srinagar, he highlighted the deployment of novel technologies for critical infrastructure, such as the Chenab and Anji bridges and numerous tunnels.

Focusing on long-term sustainability, Vaishnaw assured that key players, including J&K Police and the Home Ministry, are committed to enhancing the network's safety, security, and upkeep. Initiatives to escalate train carrying capacity between Jammu and Srinagar were also detailed, alongside ongoing projects such as automatic signalling systems and additional crossing stations aimed at boosting operational efficiency.

Vaishnaw reported on rapid redevelopment at Jammu Tawi station and other regional hubs to improve passenger facilities. In preparation for the Amarnath Yatra, he guaranteed special provisions for pilgrims, emphasizing the importance of improved rail links in boosting regional freight, lowering essential commodity costs, and aiding local produce transport, thus benefiting farmers and traders.
