India Unveils Barrier-Free Tolling Revolution on Highways
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced India's first Multi-Lane Free Flow tolling system on NH-48 in Gujarat. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has ushered in a pioneering move in India's highway infrastructure by launching the country's first Multi-Lane Free Flow barrier-less tolling system. Installed at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat-Bharuch section of NH-48 in Gujarat, this system signifies a landmark shift in toll operations.
Gadkari took to social media to highlight the system's advanced technology, which relies on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag, eliminating the need for vehicles to stop. This initiative is poised to drive significant improvements in travel efficiency, traffic decongestion, fuel consumption, and emissions reduction.
The highways minister emphasized the enhanced 'ease of living' and facilitated business operations through faster logistics movement. The initiative is part of a broader government agenda to align India's tolling ecosystem with global standards through digital modernization, reflecting a commitment to transparent and commuter-friendly infrastructure development.
