Record-Breaking GST Collections Propel Andhra Pradesh's April Revenue
Andhra Pradesh achieved its highest-ever monthly tax revenue in April 2026, amounting to Rs 5,542.7 crore. This was due to improved GST compliance and administrative efficiency, despite challenges from GST 2.0 rationalisation. The state recorded significant growth in GST, petroleum VAT, and professional tax collections compared to the previous year.
In a historic achievement, Andhra Pradesh recorded its highest-ever monthly tax collections, amassing Rs 5,542.7 crore in April 2026. This landmark collection comes in the wake of GST 2.0's structural reforms, which had projected an annual revenue shortfall of Rs 8,000 crore.
State Chief Commissioner of Tax, A Babu, attributed this unprecedented revenue uptick to enhanced administrative efficiency and compliance measures. The Commercial Taxes Department reported a 12.08 percent growth in overall tax collections compared to April 2025, with net GST contributing around Rs 3,796 crore, marking a year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.
Apart from GST, significant revenue growth was observed in the Petroleum VAT sector, which spiked 26.7 percent to Rs 1,613 crore, and professional tax collections rose by 21.1 percent. Key strategies like AI-driven analytics and UPI-based transaction scrutiny have played a crucial role in amplifying tax base and compliance.
