India-Jamaica Forge Stronger Trade and Cultural Ties
India and Jamaica have committed to deepening trade relationships and collaborating on skilled workforce mobility, focusing on healthcare and education. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Jamaican counterpart Kamina J Smith discussed comprehensive agreements across various sectors, including digital transformation and cultural exchange, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties.
In a significant diplomatic move, India and Jamaica are set to enhance their trade relationships and explore avenues for skilled worker mobility in healthcare and education sectors. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Jamaican Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina J Smith led discussions to improve bilateral ties across multiple domains.
The talks concluded with several agreements in digital transformation, cultural exchanges, sports, and digital payments. India acknowledged Jamaica's strategic position as a logistics hub for the Caribbean and emphasized mutual benefits from strengthened trade and investment ties.
The collaboration extends to defense, healthcare, digitization, agriculture, and education. India also supports Jamaica's recovery from Hurricane Melissa, providing humanitarian aid and infrastructure support. The meeting further reinforced cooperation in multilateral forums, climate justice, and efforts against terrorism.
