In Kerala, a wave of restaurant closures swept the state on Wednesday, spearheaded by the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHRA). The strike was a formidable protest against skyrocketing cooking gas prices.
With widespread involvement from both large hotels and small tea stalls, the movement garnered significant support. The KHRA accused oil companies of unregulated price escalation, prioritizing profits over the welfare of small business owners and the general public. Addressing the issue, KHRA leaders demanded government intervention to alleviate the burden on the food sector.
Demonstrations erupted across the state, with hotel owners staging marches in front of oil company offices. In Ernakulam, a notable protest was inaugurated by state president G Jayapal, featuring speeches from various supporting leaders and representatives. The KHRA warned of further action if the issue remains unresolved.
