Rajasthan Joins the Semiconductor Revolution with Sahasra's New Facility
India marks a significant milestone in its semiconductor journey with the inauguration of its first SME-led chip manufacturing facility by Sahasra Semiconductors in Rajasthan. The facility is part of India's drive to bolster domestic electronics manufacturing, projecting substantial production and export growth in the coming years.
In a landmark development for India's electronics sector, Sahasra Semiconductors Pvt Ltd has inaugurated the nation's first SME-led semiconductor chip manufacturing facility in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan. The venture underscores India's strategic push towards self-sufficiency in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing, an industry of growing geopolitical importance.
Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw hailed the inauguration as a 'historic day' for Rajasthan, highlighting the country's impressive growth in electronics over the past decade, with production ballooning sixfold to nearly Rs 13 lakh crores. This development aligns with national efforts as mobile phones eclipse other commodities to top India's export list.
The new ATMP/OSAT facility, supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors, represents a substantial Rs 150 crore investment. Spanning 57,000 square feet, it features advanced cleanrooms and aims to expand its packaging capacity significantly, with more than 60% of its output already bound for international markets. Rajasthan's state policy, introduced in 2026, positions the region as a burgeoning electronics manufacturing hub.
