Jupiter Tatravagonka Railwheel Factory Pvt Ltd (JTRWF), part of Jupiter Wagons Limited, announced a landmark agreement on Thursday, establishing a decade-long partnership with European rail manufacturer Tatravagonka a.s. This contract involves supplying rail wheels, axles, and wheelsets, reinforcing India's expanding footprint in the global rail industry.

Production under this agreement is set to begin by late 2027 from a new greenfield facility in Odisha, involving an investment nearing Rs 3,000 crore. Annually, this plant will produce 1 lakh wheelsets, with 50,000 earmarked for export to Europe, significantly enhancing India's export portfolio. European partners, Tatravagonka a.s, currently utilize 20,000-30,000 wheelsets each year, and this collaboration is expected to align with their growing demands.

Jupiter Wagons Managing Director Vivek Lohia remarked that this agreement is pivotal for both JTRWF and India’s rail production capabilities. Previously a net importer, India now emerges as a leading exporter. He anticipates this venture bringing in Rs 1,000-1,500 crore in revenue, marking a significant step in solidifying India’s position within the global rail supply chain and showcasing its manufacturing prowess.

Approximately 40-50% of the Odisha facility's output will target export markets over the long term, further strengthening the nation’s economic ties with Europe.
