United Airlines Flight U-turns Due to Midair Security Suspicion

A United Airlines flight from Newark to Spain made a midair return due to a security concern. The aircraft, carrying 190 passengers, was subjected to police inspection. After rescreening, passengers departed on a new flight. Recent security concerns have involved other United Airlines flights.

A United Airlines flight destined for Spain was redirected back to Newark Liberty International Airport after a potential security issue arose during the journey. The plane took off from Newark around 6 pm, heading for Palma de Mallorca, but returned and landed at 9:37 pm.

The flight, equipped with 190 passengers and 12 crew members, faced scrutiny when a Bluetooth device allegedly named with inappropriate language triggered concerns. Despite continuous requests by crew to disable all Bluetooth connections, two remained on. Following consultations with the airline's Chicago base, the aircraft was directed back.

Upon landing, the Port Authority police inspected the aircraft, while passengers underwent TSA and Customs checks. Following the rescreening, they boarded a new flight with a replacement crew, eventually reaching Palma by the following afternoon.

This incident adds to a series of recent security issues for United Airlines. Just days prior, another flight was diverted due to disruptive passenger behavior, and another incident involved a United flight colliding with a truck and a pole, fortunately without injuries.
