Millet Revolution: India's First Sea Shipment of Ready-to-Cook Foods to New Zealand
India's agri-food exports see a significant stride as APEDA facilitates the first-ever sea shipment of millet-based ready-to-cook foods to New Zealand. This initiative, highlighting the rising global demand for nutritionally rich millet products, opens new growth avenues for Indian farmers, food processors, and exporters.
The first-ever sea shipment of millet-based ready-to-cook functional foods from Karnataka to New Zealand has marked a significant milestone for India’s agri-food exports, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. This effort, facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) on June 3, demonstrates India’s increasing penetration into international markets with millet due to its nutritional value and climate resilience.
The shipment, weighing one metric tonne and dispatched by Infini Agrotek LLP, reflects a growing global appetite for millet-based products prepared from India's traditional grains. The Ministry underlined that this development stands as a testament to the expanding opportunities for higher-value agricultural exports from India.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, applauded the venture on social media, emphasizing the Modi Government’s commitment to promoting 'Shree Anna' on a global scale. These initiatives, he noted, are creating unprecedented opportunities for Indian farmers and entrepreneurs while strengthening the country's agri-export ecosystem.
