Nepal's Fresh Foreign Relations: A New Chapter in India Ties
Nepal's Foreign Affairs Minister Shisir Khanal will visit India to engage in high-level discussions with India's S Jaishankar. This marks the highest official contact since Nepal's political transition, aiming to bolster cooperation in trade, investment, and connectivity.
Nepal's Foreign Affairs Minister, Shisir Khanal, is set to undertake an official visit to India from June 5 to 7, marking the highest-level engagement following Nepal's recent significant political transformation. The announcement from Nepal's Foreign Ministry comes in response to a cordial invitation by India's Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar.
Arriving after a monumental political shift, Khanal's visit follows Prime Minister Balendra "Balen" Shah's induction, amidst a Gen-Z-driven political awakening that culminated in the Rastriya Swatantra Party's electoral triumph. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to acknowledge Shah's victory through a congratulatory call.
Khanal's itinerary includes in-depth dialogue with S Jaishankar, focusing on strengthening the bilateral relationship. Key areas like trade, investment, and connectivity will headline discussions. This diplomatic exchange reinforces the historic and evolving partnership between Nepal and India, underscored by ongoing cooperative developments dating back to the 1950s.
