In the face of allegations from the United States regarding imports produced with forced labor, Switzerland has expressed its firm resolve to continue trade negotiations while rejecting these claims. On Friday, the Swiss government emphasized the effectiveness of its supply chain oversight as Washington deliberates on imposing additional tariffs of 12.5%.

The Federal Council, representing Switzerland's governmental stance, refuted the allegations encountered during recent Section 301 investigations concerning unfair trade practices. It reiterated its commitment to combining regulation, mandated risk assessments by the private sector, and international cooperation as a comprehensive approach to tackle forced labor issues.

The U.S. investigation, which debuted in March, could spur additional tariffs to succeed the current 10% tariffs that expire on July 24. However, any new tariffs would first consider public opinions, with stakeholders encouraged to voice their insights before a public hearing.
