Controversial Naming: Russian Amusement Park Ride Shares Name with Missile

A Russian amusement park in St Petersburg is facing criticism for naming one of its rides 'Oreshnik,' a controversial choice given that the name is shared with a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile. The ride, shaped like a rocket, lifts visitors into the air and subjects them to abrupt drops, creating an intense experience.

Visitors, however, are questioning the suitability of the name. One woman expressed dissatisfaction, suggesting that a more fitting name could simply be 'Rocket.' Another visitor, a man interviewed by Reuters, argued that a children's ride should have a more child-friendly name.

The missile, first launched by Russia against Ukraine in 2024, boasts a range of over 5,000 km and is claimed by President Vladimir Putin to be impossible to intercept, a claim that has faced skepticism. Recently, Putin stated that the missile had not been used in combat conditions, implying future potential use in full-scale conflicts.
