Amidst global energy uncertainties, including the prevailing West Asia turmoil, India is accelerating its coal gasification projects, a move seen as crucial to securing its energy future while also advancing its cleaner energy initiatives. Anurag Thakur, BJP MP and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, emphasized the government's commitment to this cause as significant resources, amounting to a Rs 37,500 crore incentive package, bolster these efforts.

In remarks following a committee meeting, Thakur highlighted that the government, in collaboration with both private and public sectors, is focusing on speeding up the approval and implementation of these projects. Notably, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has introduced key measures to ensure faster clearances, thereby facilitating the transformation of coal into a cleaner energy form more efficiently.

Thakur also addressed concerns about India's energy reliance due to the West Asia crisis, underscoring the dual responsibilities of ensuring energy security and fulfilling climate commitments like the net-zero target by 2070. He reiterated India's dedication to these goals, as evinced in rapid escalations in renewable energy capacity, which now accounts for nearly half of the nation's energy matrix.
