LNG Carrier Disha Safely Transits Strait of Hormuz, En Route to India
The LNG carrier Disha, managed by a Shipping Corporation of India-led consortium, has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz carrying 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG. The vessel is expected to reach Dahej port, Gujarat, by June 18. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways closely monitors operations ensuring safety and repatriation support for Indian seafarers.

In a significant development, the LNG carrier Disha, managed by a consortium led by the Shipping Corporation of India, has safely journeyed through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Carrying 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG, the vessel is anticipated to dock at Dahej port in Gujarat by June 18, according to Opesh Kumar Sharma, Director at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), during a briefing in Delhi.
Speaking on the ministry's proactive measures, Sharma highlighted ongoing coordination between the Directorate General of Shipping, the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, and relevant stakeholders. This collaborative effort aims to safeguard Indian seafarers and offer comprehensive assistance as required.
Since its inception, the ministry's control room has addressed over 12,700 calls and processed more than 28,000 emails, with recent data showing 406 calls and 784 emails in just 96 hours. Highlighting the ministry’s commitment, Sharma noted the successful repatriation of 3,587 Indian seafarers, including 50 within the last four days, ensuring smooth port functionalities across India without any congestion reports.
