In a significant development in international relations, India and Slovakia signed a crucial Letter of Intent (LoI) on defence cooperation on Monday. The agreement was announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a joint press briefing with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Bratislava, marking a historic advancement in their bilateral ties.
The strategic partnership aims to foster joint development and production efforts within the defence industries of both countries, underlining a mutual strategic vision and deep confidence. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the importance of this cooperation in defence, calling it a testament to their shared trust and strategic convergence. Slovak PM Fico also articulated a keen interest in advancing the defence industry relationship.
The leaders discussed strengthening collaboration in multiple sectors, with a focus on peace and stability diplomacy amid global challenges. Additionally, an MoU on labour migration was unveiled to promote professional mobility between the two nations. PM Modi announced the elevation of India-Slovakia relations to a 'Comprehensive Partnership', celebrating his historic visit as the first Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia.
