Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has reacted to a recent policy call by Arizona Democratic Representative Yassamin Ansari regarding the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence. In a post on X, Musk wrote, "It's a Brave New World".

The entrepreneur's commentary followed a statement shared by Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari on the platform, in which she argued that regulating the sector should be an immediate priority. "Top of the Democratic agenda on day 1 needs to be a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out-of-control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence," Ansari wrote.

This friction over technological policy unfolds against a broader backdrop of political upheaval, as Musk separately reacted to sweeping Democratic victories in the 2026 US midterm elections with sarcastic posts on X, including a remark that "data centres in space" were looking increasingly appealing, after Republicans suffered major electoral setbacks despite his extensive financial support for their campaigns. In two separate posts on X, Musk first quipped, "Data centres in space looking pretty appealing right now," before adding, "Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn’t work this time." The remarks came after Democrats made significant gains in the midterm elections, with US networks projecting that the party would reclaim control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, marking a major reversal in the balance of power in Washington.

Musk, the world's richest man, had emerged as one of the biggest financial supporters of Republican candidates during the election cycle, spending approximately USD 250 million to assist the party's congressional campaigns, according to NBC News. One of his biggest political investments was in the Texas Senate contest, where Republican candidate Ken Paxton lost to Democrat James Talarico, marking a significant Democratic breakthrough in a traditionally Republican stronghold. Talarico also referred to Musk during his victory speech, drawing a comparison between his campaign and the biblical story of David taking on Goliath. He described Musk, along with President Donald Trump and the Washington, DC, establishment, as part of the powerful forces his campaign had challenged.

Musk's comments regarding both AI regulation and space-based data centres also come amid growing political uncertainty surrounding the future of the technology sector following the Democratic gains, with stock futures falling overnight amid concerns over the implications for the industry. The Republican setback marks a particularly significant moment for Musk, whose heavy financial backing could not prevent high-profile defeats or stem Democrats' advances in traditionally conservative states. The election results have ultimately strengthened the Democrats' position in Congress, giving the party greater scope to challenge Trump's legislative agenda, intensify scrutiny of his administration during the remaining two years of his presidency, and push forward aggressive oversight of technology and artificial intelligence.
