The ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Goats in Mathura has joined the illustrious list of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) institutes that have an NABL-accredited laboratory, an officer of the institute said. "The laboratory of the institute has recently been awarded the prestigious NABL accreditation (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) in accordance with the standard ISO/IEC 17025:2005 in the field of biological testing," ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Goats (CIRG) Director Manmohan Singh Chauhan told PTI on Thursday.

ICAR-CIRG houses a laboratory for detection of pathogenic microbes and their toxins in meat, milk and their products. Presence of microbes and their toxins in foods is a major public health concern and their early detection will aid in quality assurance of food produce and prevention of outbreak of food borne diseases, Chauhan said.
