Job creation slightly up at 10.88 lakh in April: ESIC payroll data

Job creation was slightly up at 10.88 lakh in April as compared with 10.77 lakh in the year-ago month, showed the Employees' State Insurance Corporation's (ESIC) gross payroll data. The data is among three such sets of statistics released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Tuesday.

Gross new enrolments in 2018-19 stood at 1.49 crore, indicating that these many jobs were created in the financial year. A total of 83.31 lakh new subscribers joined the ESI scheme from September 2017 to March 2018, showed the data.

The ESIC runs a health insurance scheme Employees' State Insurance (ESI). The CSO has been releasing payroll data of ESIC, Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) and National Pension Scheme (NPS) run by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) since April 2018 for periods starting from September 2017.

Similarly, the retirement fund body EPFO's payroll data showed net subscribers' addition of 10.43 lakh in April 2019. According to the data, the net new enrolments under the social security schemes run by the EPFO were 61.12 lakh in 2018-19. Such new subscribers were 15.52 lakh from September 2017 to March 2018 period.
