At least 3.5 million Euros was spent on the second line of cutting and polishing of ornamental rocks by "Alaturca Pedras Naturais" plant, a firm attached to the Bongani Investment group.

The new line, inaugurated on December 11 in Funda commune in Angola's capital, Luanda, has a cutting capacity of more than 1,200 square meters/day.

70 percent of this figure in granite and 30 percent in marble, while the polishing of granite and marble has a capacity of 1000 square meters in eight hours.

Luís Kupenela, the Chief Executive Officer of Bongani group, who was speaking at the inauguration ceremony, chaired by the Secretary of State for Industry, Ivan do Prado, described the polishing capacity as multifaceted.

In addition to processing in granite and marble, it also produces softened finishes, non-slip, rustic, brushed and "shrunk" in thicknesses of 2 to 20 centimetres, he said

The entrepreneur said that the new line allowed 200 indirect jobs, 25 direct jobs, two expatriates to ensure the transfer of know-how, technology and sustainability.

With the start-up of this new line, he noted, the factory's installed capacity, which includes the first and second phases, is of five thousand and forty m²/day.

The three shifts will guarantee a product with quality demanded by the international market.

Speaking to the press after the inauguration ceremony, the State Secretary for Industry, Ivan do Prado, said that the sector is diversifying the economy as the country has been exporting raw materials, without adding any value to the national economy.

The first phase was inaugurated four years ago, with an investment of 6.8 million Euros.

Alaturca is subsidiary of Bongani Investment, an Angolan entrepreneurial group active in the sectors of energy, civil construction, real estate, travel and tourism, manufacture and logistics.
