India is marching ahead in technological development on par with other advanced countries in the world and ranks third in terms of the number of PhDs awarded in science and engineering, said Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer here on Wednesday. Presiding over the ninth convocation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University – Kakinada (JNTU – Kakinada), he said, ''India ranks third in terms of number of PhDs awarded in Science and Engineering, which is nearly 25,000, after the USA and China…the country also ranks third globally in terms of the number of startups which are 77,000 and 107 unicorns.'' India is the most attractive investment destination for technology transactions across the world with the gross expenditure on R&D (GERD) increasing by three times in the past 10 years while the country ranked ninth in terms of the number of resident patents filed, said the Governor in a press note shared by the Raj Bhavan.
