Congress Slams Centre Over Manusmriti Proposal at DU

In a fresh salvo against the Centre, the Congress has accused the government of pushing a proposal to include 'Manusmriti' in the LLB curriculum at Delhi University (DU) as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wider strategy to enforce the RSS's agenda on the Indian Constitution.

The proposal, set to be discussed at DU's Academic Council meeting on Friday, aims to introduce texts from 'Manusmriti' for first and third-year law students. According to Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, this effort reflects the RSS's longstanding discontent with India's Constitution, which they argue lacks elements of ancient Bharatiya law.

Critics, including the left-leaning Social Democratic Teachers Front, have opposed this move on grounds that 'Manusmriti' perpetuates regressive views on women's and marginalized communities' rights, counteracting the ethos of a progressive education system.
