In a late evening announcement, the Goa Education Department declared a holiday for all schools up to Class 12 on Monday, July 15, due to severe weather conditions. Heavy rains have been lashing the coastal state for the past three days.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert, prompting the temporary closure to ensure student safety, State Education Director Shailesh Zingde stated. Schools from Std I to Std XII will remain shut.

In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, Pernem in North Goa recorded 210 mm of rainfall, which IMD categorized as "extremely heavy".
