Delhi University has announced the establishment of two joint control rooms to address ragging complaints as the new academic year approaches. These control rooms, located on both the north and south campuses, will be operational from August 1 to 10 to facilitate smooth onboarding of students in coordination with Delhi Police.
In a bid to prevent any untoward incidents, plainclothes women police personnel will be positioned outside the university and college campuses. Additionally, the university will observe Anti-Ragging Day on August 12, followed by Anti-Ragging Week from August 12 to 18, as directed by the University Grants Commission.
The measures were put in place following a meeting of the university's proctorial board and senior police officials. Anti-ragging posters in both English and Hindi have been displayed on campuses. Any acts of indiscipline or ragging will be dealt with strictly according to university regulations.
Students seeking paying guest accommodations are advised to ensure these are verified by local police, who regularly monitor PGs for safety. In case of incidents, police patrolling has been enforced for speedy action, with strict measures against offenders in cases of ragging or eve-teasing.
The university has directed colleges, centers, and hostels to restrict the entry of outsiders and publicize anti-ragging rules. Specific anti-ragging and disciplinary committees have been formed, and leaders in colleges, departments, and hostels must regularly report compliance with anti-ragging measures to the proctor's office.
The helplines for anti-ragging control rooms are 27667221 for the north campus and 24119832 for the south campus.
