More than 13 lakh Indian students are engaged in higher education abroad in 2024, as revealed by government data presented in Parliament.
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh disclosed the figures while responding to questions on the government's tracking of emigrant students. Singh offered a detailed country-wise breakdown of Indian students in 108 nations including the US, the UK, and Canada.
In his statement, Singh noted that Indian Missions abroad support Indian students by organizing welcome ceremonies, advising on security, and encouraging registration on the Global Rishta Portal to keep track of their numbers. Efforts are also in place to expand visa-free or visa-on-arrival options for Indian travelers globally.
