Madhya Pradesh's Higher Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar has sparked controversy by claiming that America was discovered by India's ancestors, not by Christopher Columbus as traditionally taught. Parmar made these remarks during a convocation at Barkatullah University in Bhopal.
Parmar criticized the historical narrative being taught in schools, stating that students should learn about the post-Columbus era's impact on native societies, including their destruction and conversion. He further argued that Indian hero Vasuloon had reached America in the eighth century and built temples in Santiago.
Addressing the issue of Vasco da Gama, Parmar contended that the explorer was guided to India by a Gujarati trader named Chandan, suggesting that the historical account of Vasco da Gama discovering India should be revised.
