In a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities, the Odisha government has extended the mid-day meal scheme to encompass students in Classes 9 and 10. This program was previously available only to those studying up to Class 8.
During the centenary celebrations of Ranihat High School in Cuttack, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi highlighted this initiative, underscoring its role in addressing the nutritional needs of students and reducing dropout rates at the secondary level.
The state's efforts complement the nationwide 'Pradhan Mantri Poshan Scheme', which provides cooked meals to children aged six to fourteen in classes I to VIII. Additionally, the 'Sahid Madho Singh Hata Kharcha Yojana' has been introduced to offer pocket expenses, aiming to further decrease dropout rates.
