West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu has given his statement to the police regarding an FIR filed after a violent incident at Jadavpur University. The FIR, instigated by student Indranuj Roy, accuses Basu, professor and TMC leader Om Prakash Mishra, and others, following Roy's injury during a protest.
The altercation allegedly occurred when Basu's vehicle grazed past the student amidst March 1 protests on the university campus. Police confirmed that relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, addressing voluntary harm, assault, and criminal intimidation, have been invoked in the FIR.
Minister Basu claimed injuries from damage to his car's windshield during the chaos, despite his willingness to discuss students' demands. He alleged that students aimed to create disorder, forcibly attempting to halt his vehicle.
