The Bombay High Court has dismissed a plea by a Dalit PhD student against his suspension from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai. The student, identified as Ramadas K S, was suspended last year over allegations of misconduct and engaging in anti-national activities.
The suspension followed his involvement in a protest march in New Delhi against the central government's policies and for promoting a controversial documentary during a religious ceremony. Despite his claims of unfair treatment, a division bench of Justices A S Chandurkar and M M Sathaye saw no merit in the petition and upheld the institute's decision.
TISS argued that Ramadas had other avenues for appeal within the institute, but he expressed concerns about not receiving an unbiased hearing. The court, however, emphasized the sufficiency of the existing remedies, leading to the dismissal of the student's appeal.
