The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has issued a directive for more than 100 madrassas operating on its properties to register with the state's Board of School Education and fully implement its syllabus. This measure was confirmed during a recent board meeting, as explained by Board Chairman Shadab Shams.
The goal is to equip madrassa students with modern education, putting them on equal footing with peers who attend contemporary educational institutions. Shams highlighted the importance of this change, emphasizing its role in preparing students for the challenges of today's competitive academic and professional spheres.
All related madrassa authorities have been notified about this decision and instructed to proceed with registration through the Chief Education Officer. The initiative will initially encompass a minimum of 50 madrassas, with plans for broader implementation. Despite these changes, traditional religious education will continue outside of regular school hours.
