The civic education department in Thane has taken a firm stand against schools that defy the norm of teaching Marathi as the third language to primary students. Straying from this directive, especially by offering Hindi instead, could result in strict actions against the educational institutions.
Thane City Education Officer, Kamalakant Mhetre, highlighted this issue, clarifying that the language teaching mandate is specifically for schools under the Maharashtra board, and does not affect those governed by the CBSE.
The matter was brought into focus by a delegation of MNS leaders, who met with Mhetre to address their concerns about certain schools allegedly continuing to offer Hindi lessons despite the withdrawal of a related government circular. Mhetre emphasized that notices would be dispatched to any non-compliant schools.
