Delhi University Embarks on Groundbreaking Fourth Year with FYUP

More than 55% of Delhi University students have opted to continue with the fourth year of studies under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme. Despite concerns from some educators, the university is optimistic about the focus on research, entrepreneurship, and skill-based learning, as emphasized by the Vice-Chancellor.

In a noteworthy development, a majority of Delhi University students have decided to undertake the optional fourth year of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), as the university prepares for a new academic session starting August 1.

With more than 55 percent of eligible students advancing to the fourth year, Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh expressed satisfaction, citing it as a fulfillment of expectations. The FYUP, introduced through the National Education Policy 2020, offers students the flexibility to exit at various stages and awards those completing all four years with an 'Honours with Research' degree.

While the initiative aims to foster research, entrepreneurship, and skills, concerns remain over infrastructure and clarity. Singh reassured stakeholders of readiness, stressing the creation of required facilities as needed, and conveyed enthusiasm for welcoming students back to one of India's top educational institutions.
