At the 84th University Council meeting of the University of Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha underscored the urgency of introducing modern, interdisciplinary academic courses that align with the National Education Policy-2020. The discussions were aimed at enhancing regional development and increasing employability through innovation and entrepreneurship.

The council, comprising university officials and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, provided in-principle approval for several academic agenda items. These include revising admission policies for international students, renaming the Department of Earth Sciences, and introducing five-year integrated master's programs in various fields like applied geology and data science.

A host of new programs and policy reforms were also approved, focusing on multilingual education and advanced studies in classical and regional languages. The council's deliberations emphasized strengthening governance and enhancing the quality of teaching and research in the university.
