In a significant recruitment milestone, more than 8 lakh candidates appeared for the first-ever State Level Selection Test (SLST) conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) on Sunday. This test aims to fill 5,489 Group D non-teaching roles in government-aided schools across West Bengal.
The examination, held in a single shift from 12 pm to 1:20 pm, took place at 1,707 centers statewide. Candidates were mandated to adhere to a strict dress code, forbidding closed shoes and allowing only sandals or slippers. The test covered general knowledge, arithmetic, and reasoning and was scored on a 40-mark scale.
Enhanced security measures, including a ban on electronic gadgets like mobile phones and calculators, were implemented to ensure a fair testing environment. This recruitment drive follows a Supreme Court order that invalidated the 2016 recruitment process, affecting 26,000 staff. The current exams aim to address 8,477 total vacancies.
