The NEET-UG 2026 medical exam was thrown into chaos after the emergence of a guess paper resembling the official test questions. It was traced back to a student from Rajasthan’s Sikar, currently pursuing an MBBS degree in Kerala, who initially distributed the paper. According to Ajay Pal Lamba, IG of the Special Operations Group (SOG), the student shared it with friends in Sikar, eventually reaching candidates in Jaipur and surrounding areas before the May 3 exam.
A hostel owner in Sikar reportedly tipped off local authorities, which led to an extensive investigation by SOG and multiple other agencies, including police units from Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Alwar, and Jaipur. Over 150 candidates, along with their friends and parents, were interviewed. The investigation revealed the paper had circulated extensively in Rajasthan just prior to the examination.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now taken over the case following a decision by the Centre to cancel the NEET exam. There are suspicions of an organized network behind the leak, and around two dozen individuals are under investigation. Despite the widespread circulation, no FIR has yet been registered in Rajasthan.
