Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray has raised questions about the necessity of NEET-UG while urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to seek the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The call follows the massive uproar over the cancellation of the examination due to paper leak allegations.
Thackeray highlighted the government's fixation on centralizing authority, which, he argued, neglects the wellbeing of countless students. He expressed concerns about Pradhan's continued tenure despite controversies surrounding NEET. Thackeray suggested that the Minister's pursuit of a Hindi-centric agenda could be the reason behind his prolonged appointment.
The examination, crucial for medical college aspirants, faced claims of malpractice, leading to a CBI investigation. Thackeray criticized the central government's response, emphasizing the undue pressure placed on students and families. He also urged Maharashtra leaders to join southern states in opposing NEET's framework, pointing out regional imbalances in medical college distribution.
