Ghana takes a strategic step to develop the quality of legal education in the country. The General Legal Council is going to collaborate with the National Accreditation Board to bring an improvement in the quality of legal education in Ghana.

The officials of National Accreditation Board and the General Legal Council came across at one venue to identify challenges facing legal education in Ghana and to strategize on finding lasting solutions to those challenges.

The General Legal Council (GLC), which is the statutory body mandated to regulate professional legal education in Ghana, was led to the meeting by a Supreme Court Judge, Justice Jones Dotse. The Public Relation Head of National Accreditation Board (NAB), Lawrence Kwarteng-Ashia opined that the areas discussed minimum entry requirements into law programmes, staff qualification and staff strength, as well as physical facilities, financial and other resources needed to run law programmes.

The two bodies had also agreed to carry out review and assessment visits to all institutions running law programmes, during which they would check for compliance with the approved standards. Ashia cited that both institutions further agreed on the need for strict quality control measures in order to improve the teaching and learning of law programmes at the tertiary level, as reported by Graphic Online.
