Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers. Proceed with caution if you have not watched the show/movie.

Shadow and Bone has created waves with its magnetic storyline and gripping characters. However, with no official announcement about Shadow and Bone Season 3 on Netflix, fans are left in suspense. Despite hopes that Netflix would spill the beans at TUDUM 2023 or during its virtual upfronts presentation, there was no word on the show's future. Other series, such as Virgin River, were renewed, leaving Shadow and Bone enthusiasts in a cloud of disappointment.

Season 2 left us on a cliffhanger. The showdown at the fort between Nikolai, Wylan, and the Darkling's shadowy creation, the Nichevo'ya, was epic. Alina's heartbreaking decision to stab Mal and the explosion of energy that followed, destroying the Fold, were unforgettable moments. The Darkling's death, Alina's newfound shadow powers, and the introduction of the drug, jurda parem, that boosts Grishas' abilities - all these developments promise an exhilarating Season 3.

However, five months post the Season 2 premiere, the silence from Netflix about Shadow and Bone Season 3 is unsettling. It's uncommon for the streaming giant to delay renewals for such a long span post a season's release.

Even the lack of mention about Shadow and Bone Season 3 and the much-anticipated Six of Crows spinoff at TUDUM 2023 is concerning. Normally, any forthcoming seasons or associated spin-offs would be heralded during such a significant event.

Still, there's hope. Sophie Holland, the series' casting director, expressed optimism for a third season in a chat with Deadline. Emphasizing the show's robust fan base and its adherence to Leigh Bardugo's original books, she hinted that its fate might largely depend on its first-month performance on Netflix.

“It seems to have a huge fan base. It’s a fresh, up-and-coming cast and the story is very faithful to the books, which is refreshing. It’s all about that first month’s performance on Netflix, I guess, so we’ll find out soon if it’s being recommissioned. It’s a tricky time, as you noted, so we’ll see,” said Sophie Holland.

And the series does have substantial material to pull from. Even though the second season encapsulated significant events from the Shadow and Bone trilogy and even Six of Crows, Netflix's deviation from the books opens up numerous possibilities for Season 3.

Ben Barnes, portraying the Darkling, hinted at potential developments, particularly around the Six of Crows narrative. He expressed his admiration for the sequels, even though the Darkling isn't a part of them.

Meanwhile, Jessie Mei Li, our beloved Alina, is eager for another season. She shared her excitement and hopes with Collider, urging fans to continue their support so she can "play with [her] friends again."

Jessie Mei Li told Collider, "There have been discussions about where our characters might go, but with the nature of streamers, it’s down to how many people watch the show and what the response is like," she continued.

"I just really hope people watch it and enjoy it because I would love to go again and finish that story to see what happens to Alina. Equally, I’ve also had the most wonderful time on Shadow and Bone and I will always cherish it so much. Watch our show, please, so I can go and play with my friends again. I was very affected by the ending. They’ve left it in a really exciting place, and I think it would be such a shame to finish the story there."

All we can do now is wait, hope, and rewatch our favorite moments from Shadow and Bone. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Alina and her comrades to return to our screens soon!
