The body of missing British TV presenter Michael Mosley was discovered on a Greek island Sunday morning following an extensive search.

A police spokesman, speaking anonymously due to the ongoing investigation, reported the body was located on a rocky coast by a private boat, pending formal identification. Mosley's family confirmed his death on Sunday.

Mosley's wife, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, stated that her husband had taken the wrong route on a hike and collapsed in an obscured location. Mosley had been missing on the island of Symi since Wednesday afternoon. “Michael was an adventurous man, and it was part of what made him so special,” she shared. “It's devastating to lose Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind, and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together and loved each other very much.”

She expressed gratitude to the people of Symi who tirelessly participated in the search. “Many locals, despite not knowing Michael, worked from dawn until dusk without being asked. Their efforts and the worldwide outpouring of love have been a great comfort to my family and me.”

Lefteris Papakalodoukas, Symi's mayor, informed The Associated Press that he was on the boat with media representatives when they spotted the body approximately 20 meters above Agia Marina beach. “We zoomed in with the cameras and confirmed it was him,” he recounted. Papakalodoukas stated that Mosley seemed to have fallen down a steep slope, coming to rest against a fence, lying face-up with a few rocks atop him.

Known in Britain for his TV and radio presence and a health column in the Daily Mail, Mosley also garnered international fame for his 2013 book “The Fast Diet.” He co-authored the book with journalist Mimi Spencer, promoting the “5:2 diet” for rapid weight loss. Mosley further pioneered a rapid weight loss program and produced several films about diet and exercise. He notably pushed his body to extremes for his documentaries, even living with tapeworms for six weeks for BBC’s “Infested! Living with Parasites.”

Mosley is survived by his wife Clare Bailey Mosley and their four children.
