On Saturday, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar was crowned as Malaysia's 17th king in a ceremony filled with traditional pomp and pageantry. The billionaire king, known for his opulent lifestyle and business empire, pledged to govern fairly during his tenure. The event highlighted Malaysia's unique rotating monarchy and cultural heritage.

On a grand Saturday, the coronation of Malaysia's billionaire King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar took place, underscored by traditional pomp and cannon fire. In a statement steeped in Malay culture, Sultan Ibrahim, sworn in on Jan. 31, pledged to govern fairly during his five-year term under Malaysia's unique rotating monarchy system.

Dressed in black and gold traditional ceremonial attire, Sultan Ibrahim and Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah were greeted with a military salute. Among the esteemed guests were the heads of other royal families including Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Bahrain's King Hamad Isa al Khalifa. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pronounced Sultan Ibrahim as Malaysia's new king, affirming the government's loyalty.

Sultan Ibrahim, from Johor state, is one of Malaysia's wealthiest individuals, and he emphasized his commitment to discharging his duties faithfully. Urging the government to improve citizens' lives, he is recognized for his vocal stance on political matters and his significant, though largely ceremonial, role in governance. The king's duties include being the nominal head of the government and the protector of Islam and Malay traditions.
