Rescue Efforts Intensify in Landslide-Hit Kerala

Rescue operations will intensify in the landslide-hit areas of north Kerala's districts, including Wayanad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. State Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas announced enhanced efforts, deploying more force and equipment to high-recovery spots.

The search focuses on a 40-kilometre stretch of the Chaliyar river, where multiple bodies were previously found near Nilambur in Malappuram. Rescue teams, equipped with advanced radars, drones, and heavy machinery, aim to uncover remains in Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas, divided into six search zones.

Discussions will follow for the rehabilitation of survivors, prioritizing their views when they are ready to talk. The Minister emphasized maintaining uninterrupted education for children and helping those who lost critical identification documents. The district administration reported 219 bodies and 143 body parts recovered as of Saturday night, with 206 people still missing.
