In a tragic incident, nine Kanwar Yatra pilgrims were electrocuted to death and two others sustained injuries when their vehicle came into contact with a high-tension overhead wire in Bihar's Vaishali district, according to a senior official on Monday.

The incident occurred in Sultanpur village within the Industrial police station area around 11.15 pm on Sunday night.

Officials have launched an investigation and stated that action will be taken if any lapses are found. Preliminary findings suggest that the victims deviated from the dedicated Kanwariyas route. The two injured victims have been hospitalized and are out of danger, while the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination. The district administration has identified the deceased and provided ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the next of kin.
