In an unprecedented move in Chhattisgarh's history, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai showered flower petals on 'kanwariyas' from a helicopter in Kawardha district.
The 'kanwariyas' are devotees of Lord Shiva who walk barefoot carrying water from the Ganga river during the month of Shravan. On Monday, CM Sai visited Baba Bhoramdeo temple, a revered ancient Shiva temple, to welcome them.
This marks a significant change in tradition, the CM emphasized while taking a jab at the former Congress government, highlighting that past administrations used sticks against 'sanatanis'. Sai, accompanied by Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, also performed rituals at the temple, met with devotees, and distributed prasad.
